We, the Revolutionary Student Union (RSU), express our firm and unconditional solidarity with the Front Mahasiswa Nasional (FMN) and the rising national democratic movement in Indonesia.
As Indonesia is shaken by mass outrage against the repressive actions of the Tentara Nasional Indonesia (TNI)—from land grabs to the militarization of rural communities—FMN has played a critical role. Its chapters across the country have mobilized students, united with workers and peasants, and spoken clearly: no to militarism, no to state violence, yes to land and democratic rights for the people!
FMN has correctly identified the root of the crisis: a state that protects the power of foreign capital, landlords, and oligarchs at the expense of the majority. In this moment, when the TNI strike movement and rural resistance are converging into a national wave of opposition, FMN’s leadership is not only inspiring—it is necessary. FMN’s recent actions highlights the critical role of students as an auxiliary force in a revolutionary struggle, taking on the old state head-on.
We echo their calls for:
● Demilitarization of rural areas
● Defense of the right to protest and organize
● Genuine agrarian reform and industrial development for the people
● An end to repression of students, workers, and peasants
Let it be clear: this is not an “internal affair” of Indonesia. The same imperialist systems that prop up militarism and exploitation there are the same ones we fight here. U.S. military aid, corporate land grabs, and extractive investments directly contribute to the violence now unfolding in Indonesia.
To our Indonesian comrades in FMN: you do not stand alone. Your resistance is part of a larger, global movement for justice, land, and liberation.
As proletarian internationalists, one of our tasks is to “raise awareness for, and coordinate with the forces of all genuinely revolutionary and anti-imperialist struggles and organizations internationally whenever possible, especially for those struggles and organizations which exist in the storm centers of the world revolution.”1
From the belly of the beast, we call on all revolutionary forces in the United States to stand in solidarity with the national democratic struggle of the people of Indonesia!
Long live the national democratic student movement!
