From November 11th-12th the Revolutionary Student Union (RSU) attended the Anti Asian Pacific Economic Cooperation forum (APEC) people’s summit hosted by the No2APEC coalition in San Francisco.

APEC, an international capitalist organization made up of twenty one countries, exploits underdeveloped nations across the Asia-Pacific. It issues corporate guidelines that lead to the outsourcing of jobs from imperialist countries like the USA to the Asia-Pacific. APEC shows no concern for the working class in this region; instead, it prioritizes advancing its corporate agenda and maximizing profits. APEC’s guidelines lead to mass unemployment, environmental destruction, and overall create an easier to exploit working class. The youth of the this country and the world have no stake in supporting a nakedly exploitative organization such as APEC. The struggle against these imperialist schemes must be supported by the youth and the workers must take a leading role.

In July of this year Seattle hosted an APEC meeting where ministers and corporate lobbyists initiated closed-door meetings to discuss clandestine free trade agreements that will have adverse effects on billions of workers in the Asia-Pacific. The same is occurring this month in San Francisco, but instead of mere ministers meeting it will be the heads of state of each respective APEC country!

On November 11th the RSU hosted an educational workshop to an audience of over 50 people! The workshop was about the necessity and importance of the worker-student alliance, how to build it, and how the youth movement fits into the broader revolutionary movement. The workshop hammered in the fact that the youth movement must support the worker movement every chance it can, and the importance of centering youth organizing around the working class. The youth movement should not voluntarily restrict itself to only organizing for day-to-day student demands among students from middle class to upper class backgrounds. For the youth movement to see success, it must be solidly entrenched in the struggle for worker emancipation. RSU fliers were handed out and attendees participated in lively discussion and question-asking, our workshop garnered praise from its attendees due to its staunchly pro-working class political line.

On November 12th, the RSU participated in the march against APEC, joining thousands of progressives and activists. We extend warm thanks to our friends who marched alongside us. Organizations like APEC and the policies they advocate must be exposed for what they truly are: imperialist entities designed to extract every last cent from the working class in the oppressed nations worldwide.

NO TO APEC!

BUILD THE WORKER-STUDENT ALLIANCE!

UNSHACKLE THE YOUTH
